A Slice of Paradise: Inside the Dreamy Escape of Belmond Cap Juluca, Anguilla

In the world of luxury travel, there are places that promise beauty—and then there are places like Belmond Cap Juluca that deliver something closer to magic. Nestled along the powdery white sands of Maundays Bay in Anguilla, this legendary resort doesn’t just offer a stay—it offers an experience of effortless elegance, barefoot charm, and pure Caribbean bliss.

When I first stepped foot on the grounds of Cap Juluca, it felt less like checking into a hotel and more like entering a cinematic dream. With architecture that channels Greco-Moorish inspiration and a guest list that has included Jackie Kennedy, Jennifer Aniston, and Yara Shahidi, the place practically hums with history and glamour. This is the kind of destination Slim Aarons would’ve adored—and, in fact, did photograph during his lifetime of chronicling jet-set lifestyles.

Originally opened in 1988, Cap Juluca underwent an extensive renovation in 2018 that honored its iconic roots while giving it a fresh, modern allure. Think open-air villas, crisp white walls offset by Caribbean color pops, and pathways that lead directly to the sand. Each suite or villa feels like a private sanctuary, complete with its own terrace and immediate access to the beach—no elevators, no long walks, just pure seaside serenity.

But the charm of Cap Juluca isn’t just in its looks—it’s in the little luxuries that make every moment feel personal and indulgent. My three-night stay was a perfect balance of activity and ease. I arrived with just a carry-on and a duffle, packed with linen dresses, swimsuits, sandals, and a wide-brimmed hat. Dressing for Cap Juluca is a study in simplicity—breezy by day, casually refined by night.

Days began with breakfast at Pimms, the resort’s airy beachfront restaurant with postcard-worthy views. Mornings were often followed by a stretch and breath at a private Pilates class overlooking the ocean—a wellness moment that made me feel like I was living in a perfectly curated Instagram story. But it was my afternoon at the newly opened Guerlain spa that truly elevated the stay into something unforgettable.

Opened in the summer of 2024, the Guerlain spa is a tranquil ode to Anguilla itself. The waiting area is an architectural gem, with a partially open ceiling, letting sunlight and warm, salty breezes drift in. Before my massage, I was invited to choose from an array of fragrances—including ones designed specifically to evoke the lush, vibrant soul of the Caribbean. My selection lingered softly throughout the treatment, making it feel as if the scent had seeped into my skin, carrying the island with me.

Of course, adventure calls even in paradise. One afternoon, I opted for horseback riding, which began at a local stable and ended along the shore with my horse wading into the turquoise water. It was one of those surreal, pinch-me experiences that feels too cinematic to be real—yet there I was, laughing in the surf with the sun beginning to set behind me.

Other guests were kayaking, snorkeling, or heading off on boats to nearby Prickly Pear Island. Tennis enthusiasts can enjoy the grass courts nestled amid tropical foliage, while food lovers can indulge in a range of options without ever leaving the property.

Dinner at Cip’s by Cipriani was a standout—equal parts Italian indulgence and Caribbean soul, where dishes like crayfish pasta and meringue cake set the tone for slow, luxurious evenings. But for a more laid-back vibe, I couldn’t resist daily lunches at The Cap Shack, a beachside barbecue where the local crayfish was grilled to perfection as reggae music floated through the air.

By the time I packed up to leave, I felt both deeply relaxed and emotionally full. Cap Juluca isn’t just a hotel—it’s a love letter to island life, a space that encourages you to slow down, breathe deeper, and notice the details: the breeze lifting the sheer curtains, the feel of warm sand under your toes, the scent of salt and citrus in the air.

Whether you’re seeking a romantic escape, a luxurious reset, or simply a reminder that the world still holds places of unspoiled beauty, Belmond Cap Juluca is a place that doesn’t just meet expectations—it gracefully surpasses them.
